Picked up Guitar Hero World Tour

Today I picked up GHWT for the 360, but I have yet to play it.  My oldest daughter has given it a go and approves.  We have the drums for RockBand 1 and they work although they don’t have the symbols.  As I have been saying, I am a newly converted GH player and I am enjoying it a lot.

Been playing WOW today, and my buddy who I play with has dinged 77 meaning he can fly in the expansion continent of Northrend, big time jealous over here.  He is nearly 2 full days of play ahead of me and I don’t think there is much chance of me catching him at this point.  Sigh.  lol.

Well off to play some GH.  I will be back.

leveling WOW

I am off today on the holiday and trying to get some WOW leveling in. Since I last wrote I have leveled my Death Knight all the way to 74, and I should hit 75 sometime over the next few days. I have slowed down in Dec as I have been spending less and less time on the computer or gaming at all for that matter (except for Wii FIt which I have been playing alot of ). My buddy who I play most of my WOW with has whizzed past me, and is now 76 and almost ready to fly. One of my favorite parts of WOW is personal flying mounts. I already bought my flying mount at 70 but cannot use it til level 77 in the expansion. It costs 5000 g in game to buy the cold weather flying and I am about 2000 away.

I haven’t played any other characters but my DK in a while, and I think i will be jumping back onto the hunter soon. As I get closer to flying on the DK I may stick to that, but soon after it may be back to my hunter, as I get bored very easily. I could be higher than my 74 if I would just stick to questing, rather than getting bored and running low level dungeons by myself.

I work tommorrow but hope to hit 75 this weekend, and maybe get halfway or so to 76. We’ll see.

Ding….Level 70

As I was saying in my last post, I had just gotten my first WOW toon on the cusp of level 70.  With the new expansion and the cap level going to 80 starting the end of Next weekI was hoping to get some time in at level 70 to do things as buy my first flying mount and make some money for all the new toys that will be coming with the expansion. 

 

I was telling a friend of mine today that plays WOW that I must be the noob-est know nothing about the game level 70 in history.  Having played almost the whole way solo, never once raiding or running instances, or battlegrounds, I am sure I am missing out 40-50 percent of the game.  That’s fine by me, as a casual (although my wife may not agree with  the "casual" designation) player I only have so much time I can devote to the game.  I will continue to limp along at the pace I can, enjoying the game as much as possible.

 

Off to do more exploring!

Ding….Level 70

MMORPG's

Growing up I played a little bit of Dungeons and Dragons.  I really enjoyed the game, had a bunch of the books, and had a lot of fun playing the game, drawing out maps etc.  I really enjoyed the game, and played quite a bit from grade 6-10.  I always wished they would make a video game that had characters that never "finished" or that you could level up and play indefinitely.

 

Although I had heard in later years about some of these games when they became a reality, I never took the time to play one until a couple years into Everquest.  I really enjoyed playing the game, but didn’t start until I was married and had a child on the way.  So that being said, obviously I didn’t put a hole lot into the game, never rising above a level 40 character in that game.  Still I enjoyed it, played it when i could and played with a couple of my buddies I worked with and helped each other when we could.

 

When Everquest 2 came out, I had to upgrade my computer to play it.  I spent the money on a new video card and dived in.  Quickly I realized that I would never be able to put the time into the game that it required to do well, and with my anal not-being-able-to-do-anything-halfway way about me I instead stopped playing not even getting one character to level 20.

 

I dabbled in Star Wars Galaxies (that is to say played less than 5 hours total, didn’t give it a chance) but that was it for my limited MMO experience.  I played a lot of poker live and online, and had a very busy life with work, family and other adult responsiblities.  My gaming consisted of a little bit of Tiger Woods on my modded xbox and the occasional 6 hour stretch of Civilization lol.  I had heard about World of Warcraft but stayed away knowing I would likely enjoy it, but with two kids now, I just didn’t have the time.

 

So a couple years after launch this past February, looking for something to do while taking a break from poker one of my poker buddies suggested I try wow with him.  I fired up the free 10 day trial and gave it a go.  He was playing with his girlfriend so I tagged along with them as much as I could.  I enjoyed it enough to buy a copy of the game. 

 

I started with a Druid on the Zul’Jin server that a bunch of people from my work and my aforementioned friends were playing on.  I stumbled around learning as I went.  One night I decided to call a buddy of mine i use to live/work with and play EQ with and asked if he was still playing.  He wasn’t but I peaked his interest, and not too long after I got an in game tell from me, I had dragged him back in! lol.  My poker buddy and his girlfriend lost interest around level 30 and now I was doing most of my playing solo, and playing with my buddy Rob when he could play.  I started a Dranei hunter cause that’s what he was playing which necessitated me buying the Burning Crusades expansion.  For the next two months I stumbled along, playing with my buddy when we could both get the time to play, and soloing 98.5 percent of my gameplay. 

 

The end of May came and Rob moved down to the trailer for the summer and I logged out on May 29th not to play again til September sitting at level 49.  I played some poker over the summer and did outdoor stuff when I could.  I played some Wii and worked and did family stuff etc.  I am a very cyclical hobbyist, often throwing myself fully into something for a time, then leaving it and moving on to the next.  WOW was know different.  I jumped back into WOW when my buddy moved home for the summer not remembering how to play at all, and just mashed buttons basically.  I had a renew flare up of back problems and didn’t touch my computer at all for nearly 3 weeks and like I always do threw myself into something else, reading.  I read 10 novels in less then 3 weeks, somedays starting one in the morning, and starting the next before bed.

 

When I was able to sit again at the computer (as my back would allow) I would start leveling my main character.  Once I got back into it with lots of reading on where to play I leveled fairly quickly all the way up to my current 69.  Only one more level to go.  I bought an xbox 360  last month that isn’t getting used nearly as much as I expected cause i only have so much time that I feel well enough to sit in one spot due to the neck and back issues  as well as work/family/physio/other hobbies demands. 

 

I never thought I would be a WOW player, as I used to make fun of my friends that played, while also fully acknowledging I would like it as I had liked EQ.  It’s a fun game and I enjoy playing, which is what you want from a hobby!
