Crazy week or so in sports

Posted by swljuggernaut on July 15, 2010

We got the Yankees losing longtime announcer and the Boss, we got golf British Open, we got free agent craziness in the NBA, and we got 62 year old “washed up” David Ortiz winning the HR derby? Oh and AL lost the first All Star exhibition game in a decade. The Yankees missed out on Cliff Lee, a move that I think would have added even more haters to the list. What a week!

NBA Slamdunk Contest

Posted by swljuggernaut on February 17, 2008

Watched the Slam dunk contest tonight for the first time in a couple years. It was entertaining. After nearly 20 years of this thing it is hard for the players to come up with new stuff, that we haven’t seen before.

I think in any other year, the returning champ would have taken this thing home, but Green was just no match for Dwight Howard. This guy is simply a monster. 7 feet tall, supremely athletic guy. The Superman Dunk was great, as was the tapping it off the glass.

I find that sometimes until you see it in slowmotion you can’t understand exactly what they have done. The blowing out the cupcake was awesome by Green, as was the tap off the glass.

Anyway, glad I watched it, after a few years of not watching.

Blah

Posted by swljuggernaut on October 31, 2007

The whole Arod thing bugs me, as if you couldn’t tell by me blogging about it three days in a row. We now have a huge whole in the infield and we are losing a 310 50 140 guy. But you know what, I am fine with them sticking to their guns and not resigning him. I am hoping that they are able to make some moves. I would like to see Posada back. Rivera, I would like back but I don’t see it. I wish they would unload Giambi and Damon, but I don’t see them dumping them all.

I like the way Cashman has been going over the last year and a half or so. I like the rebuilding of the prospects and the farm. I am not like some Yankee fans, and I would take a year or two of mediocrity if it meant getting younger. I know that the Yankees being the Yankees will always be in the conversations of the big free agents, but I like Cashman’s stated vision for the team.

I did manage to stay undefeated in my football pool, and in my two main hockey pools I am mid pack. I am hoping to make a deal or two to sure up the team in the league allowing trades. I meant to go pick up forsberg a couple days and when i went to grab him off the wire he was gone. I can see him coming back and playing in Ottawa, somewhere where the pressure is off him, and he doesn’t have to be a savoir.

NBA started last night. I grew up a huge fan but the last year or two I did not watch the reg season as much. I am going to try and get more viewing in this year. I have always been a Laker fan going back to showtime, but also cheered for the Bulls as Jordan is my favorite athlete ever in every sport. Kobe is a distraction, and the smart money is on him not being traded, unless its for another tier 1 star, ie Iverson, Carter, TMAC, etc, and I just don’t see it happening. I like the player, but the whiny person can be anoying.
