Crazy week or so in sports

Posted by swljuggernaut on July 15, 2010

We got the Yankees losing longtime announcer and the Boss, we got golf British Open, we got free agent craziness in the NBA, and we got 62 year old “washed up” David Ortiz winning the HR derby? Oh and AL lost the first All Star exhibition game in a decade. The Yankees missed out on Cliff Lee, a move that I think would have added even more haters to the list. What a week!

Yanks win! Yanks win!

Posted by swljuggernaut on April 7, 2010

So through only two games, I have a few thoughts on the yankees.

Granderson seems lost in CF.

Posada can’t field.

Cano is going to have a great season at the plate.

Joba doesn’t seem confident (and should he with the way the yanks have flip/flopped him?)

It’s a long season.

Last night in Yankee Stadium

Posted by swljuggernaut on September 22, 2008

Watching the final game in Yankee Stadium.  I had truly hoped that I would get to Yankee stadium this year to see a game before it closed, but I didn’t get there.  I have seen a lot of baseball games at Yankee Stadium on tv over the last 30 years however.

The reason I am a Yankee fan at all was because the Yankees were my grandfathers team.  He idolized the Yankees and I idolized him, so, it was very obvious who I was going to cheer for.  My earliest memory is being 5 years old back in 77 when Reggie hit the three straight hr.  I don’t remember the game, but I was sitting on his lap and knocked right on the floor when he hit the third one.  I remember very clearly my grandmother and mother worried he was going to have a heart attack.

I think of all the games I have seen on tv, and its hard to pick out my favorite memory,    But the following is pretty close

I may have not of made it to the old Yankee stadium, but I will see the next one.

Is it opening day yet?

Posted by swljuggernaut on February 20, 2008

So its been a long winter, with all the wrong headlines concerning HGH, steriods, cheating and other things that bring our game into a negative light. I love baseball, and I wish the negative stuff would go away, and I wish the emphasis would be all that is good in baseball. But like in every other area of media, sports/celebrity, negativity sells.

Pettite has been put thru the ringer over the last few days, and I am not going to debate whether it is earned or not. I will not debate the morals of steriods or HGH here, I just wish that the media would not make it look like the handful of people listed in the Mitchell Report are the only ones using. To the average Joe, people I talk to at work who aren’t sports nuts like myself, they truly believe the two steroid users in Baseball are Bonds and Clemens. Silliness.

Pitchers and catchers are at camp, and I can’t wait for the grapefruit games and then opening day. Last year I didn’t have the MLB package offered by my satellite package after two years with the package and I am pretty sure I will be ordering it again this year so that I can watch as many of the Yanks games as possible.

With the offseason changes around baseball, Torre in LA, Cabrera and Dontrell Willis in Detroit, Santana going to the mets amongst others I am thinking it is going to be a very interesting year. I am anxiously awaiting the start of the season!

Baseball times a'coming!

Posted by swljuggernaut on February 17, 2008

Well pitchers and catchers have reported to camp! Love it. I love baseball season. With Football now down ’til the fall, its time for the snow to go away, for golf courses to open and for Baseball to start!

I am wondering how my Yankees are going to do this year. I don’t feel that we did enough to address our pitching problems, but by the same token I am glad that we didn’t give up Kennedy and Hughes for Santana. The hitters should be good, even though we have a hole at first base, I am not too worried about that. Like everyone else’s team they are a year older and not getting any younger. I would like to be rid of damon and giambi, but i think one more year if I am not mistaken. Can’t wait til opening day. What do we have, 6 weeks?
