Here it is May 23rd and I had to scrape the frost off the windows this morning. Man, we had one week of good weather two weeks ago, and it has snowed twice and been cold and or rainy since. Stinks. It is so funny just how much nice weather affects people’s moods. I think everyone around here is ready for some nice weather.

Not a whole lot going on with me, working overtime, and trying to get good rest the last few nights. My sleeping is normally a mess and I have been going to bed at a reasonable hour the past 3 or 4 nights and I feel much better when I am not living on my typical 5 hours sleep. One big thing with me is wasting time just mindlessly searching the internet. I waste soooooo much time doing that. I am consciously trying to curb the unnecessary internet time and working to be more active.

I have the final regular season game of my once a month poker tournament this Friday, and I am looking forward to that. I didn’t do very well at all this season after winning the player of the year points race last year. This year save for one game out of 7 this far when I came in second I haven’t been a factor at all, usually being out within the first 5 or 6 eliminated. I hope to play well this Friday and let the results take care of themselves. I have been taking poker too seriously in recent months, and getting too up or too down depending on results and I am now just looking to have fun again.

Well must get back to work…..weeeeeeeeeeeee.

I think one thing I talk about more than any other on my blog when I do post is balance. The reason I talk about it so much is I have so much trouble achieving it in my life. I am someone who gets on these kicks and drives it into the ground. I have many many interests. You can see these interests in my actions and in my writing. Fitness, poker, photography, hiking, reading/writing, computers/internet, personal development, etc are all part of my life. Even something like working overtime at work is something I have a hard time balancing. I have worked 1200 hours of ot over the past 2.5 years much of it “voluntary”.
So why do I have such a hard time with Balance. It may stem from the fact that I am so competititive, and the stuff that I do, I want to do well. That may be part of it. As I get older though I am starting to see that I don’t want to be one dimensional and I also want to create for myself and for my family a better, more enjoyable life. Spending most of my time focused on one area, whatever my kick at that particular time in my life, makes it harder to be living the best life.
I am getting a little burnt out on poker for example. I love the game, but I take it a little too seriously. And by serious, I am not talking about money that goes into it. I am talking about the all encompassing way I go about it, with reading/studying, discussing, playing, running a poker website etc. I am going to step back, just for a short time a month or so and allow myself to focus on other areas of my life just to refresh. There is zero chance I quit playing poker. But there is no problem sitting back for a month and taking a moment to catch my breath.

Another area I focus a lot of my time and energy on is fitness, and over the last few years my lack of it. I have slowly over the last 5 years or so managed to get into the worst shape by far of my life. I have taken positive steps over the past month in the right direction, and I am down 17 lbs since New Years, but I have a long way to go. I decided yesterday that sometime before New Years Eve 2007, my 35th birthday, I will reach my lifetime best physical condition. This is going to take a lot of work over the next 9 months but I will get there.

I have been reading a lot more this year, and am halfway thru my 6th novel of the year right now, Deception Point by Dan Brown, author of Angels and Demons and the Divinci Code. I am very happy to have taken up reading again on a big scale and I will never ever regret the time I take out of my busy life to read for pleasure.

Another rambling post, but at least I am writing again! Haha. Writing has always been an outlet for me and is yet another area of my life that I want to grow more. Hopefully posts on back to back days is just the beginning!
