So today, I started on the P90x Journey. I have to say I am happy with the results of the first workout and I am confident with the decision to cut my Power 90 Mission short and “up the ante” as it were. Day 1 on the P90x schedule is an intense workout, supersetting back and forth between chest and back. It calls for Pullups, and lots of em, but unfortunately I am not strong enough yet to do pullups so I chose to do my sets modified with a resistance band. I think fairly quickly I am going to attempt to switch to pullups (assisting with a chair under my feet) and see how it goes, but we’ll see.
Here’s how i did :
- Standard Push Ups 29, 24
- Wide Front Pull Ups 20,20 (all listed pullups/chinups were done pulldown style with a resis. band)
- Military Push Ups 14, 18 (on the second set I dropped to my knees about halfway through)
- Reverse Grip Chin Ups 20,21
- Wide Fly Push Ups 19, 15
- Closed Grip Overhand Pull Ups 20,20
- Decline Push Ups 12, 7
- Heavy Pants 18, 14
- Diamond Push Ups 14, 8 (both these sets embarassingly done on my knees)
- Lawnmower 12, 12 (with resist band)
- Dive Bomber Push Ups 8,6 (failing fast here)
- Back Flys 10,12
These exercises were done circuit style one after another, and then repeated and done again! I am happy with the initial pushup totals, I have increased quite a bit from getting only 19 on the original fit test I did about 60 days or so ago, but I also have a long ways to go as far as room for improvement.
Then after you do this, you jump onto Ab Ripper X. This for me folks, was 17 min of hell. I don’t have the dexterity to do some of the movements, and I don’t have the strength to do some others. But I did every rep I could, and I will work until I am blowing my way through every single rep. I can do way more of Ab Ripper 100 and 200 than I could when I started, and I expect this will progress as well, gulp, i hope! lol
Similar to what I posted about a week or two ago, as far as accountability go, once I decided last night to jump on P90x after I blogged about it here, I posted it on Facebook. I have had many comments at work today, on facebook and otherwise about starting, with some showing of support and some “attaboys” etc. There may be some snickering to behind my back and thats ok. It accomplished what I wanted it to, got people noticing, and gave me one more measure of accountability. Its little things like that that will get me through the hard workouts (and I expect many on this program) and keep me away from the junk and booze.
K, its ten thirty and I am POOOOOOOPED. Headed to bed now so that I can get up and get Day 2, Plyometrics in before work. Have a great night everyone
